Poet Feature: “Crazy, right?” by Dora Vang
Here’s a young poet and friend of one of my closest students who past almost a year ago due to a drive by. Thank you Dora for keeping his memory and the lessons he taught us all alive.

One year, Crazy, right? You got everyone singing, “Cause you’re amazing, JUST THE WAY YOU ARE…” Number 1 hit on the 2010 US Billboard ‘Hot 100’. It’s true. Those words flow like the beat of my heart. Heart. “Isang Bagsak!” The Unity Clap. My thoughts tremble at the sound of the words. You’re here, not just with me but with all the people I’m doing this with. People. You touched people, not through your flirtatious ways but through your Smile. Smile. Smiles make the world go ‘round, A chant you preach with essence. Every breathtaking minute of every traumatic day, You proudly spoke those words. It’s as if they are engraved in your soul; just as they are engraved in mine now. But THAT day, it came so fast, Like lightening striking the cords of my respiratory system. Inhale. Exhale. My breath grew quick and I lost all control, Nervous system silently shutting down. Bullets of tears shot through my swelling eyes, and through hers and his, leaving a bloodbath of emotions in the air. Anger, angry that it happened to you. Fear, fearful of losing the one who breathe peace and change. HOPE, hopeful that this is all a dream. Denial, denying every thing and every belief I had, praying that this miracle, YOU, would wake up and laugh at the needless tears we all shed. Acceptance, that you were gone. Damn. Your goodbye, the last goodbye I wished I would ever have to say. Staring, trying to make sense of it all. I buried you in my heart THAT day. One year, In just five days. Crazy, right?
In just five days.
