Shopping for tomatoes (Full Poem)
She moved from impoverish countrysides
tricked into the mainland
On one-way tickets of misleaded lies
Where she was told she could make
Money as a waitress
Old village princess that once lived
Has now died
The long debt she has to pay off
To man that smuggled her, her pimp
is a race with no finish lines
As she marathon under men’s bodies
She just lies there
tries not think about it, mindless, zombie
grips the ends of bed sheets
like she grips the end of a rock cliffs
with her life
only thinking
fighting for food on family tables
poverty stricken farmers, no income able
but she works, she works
20 a men a day
for 20 dollars each
To only get 20 percent
to pay off the 20 G she’s deep in
Exploitation
coercion
manifested entrapped endlessness of confusion
I once walk Thailand Streets
Seeing women make lunch lines waiting
Cover spectrum of white man eyes
looked down upon, its animal feed, degrading
Superimposed sexual stances of mini-skirt naked thighs
Turning forward then back at man will
Needing for this man’s money
So today
She takes this man’s fill
Thai women forced packaged input
To put out
Through man’s machine
Suppressed
Compressed
Wrinkled
Stream cleaned
Banged up/ Busted
All in on day’s routine
Tourist white men move down
sex slavery assembly lines
checking how real
grabbing how firm
rubbing how soft
taking how much
like shopping for tomatoes
without emotion
without hesitation
without a soul
Where exactly is the humanity in all this
When women become no more than
A thriving tourist attraction
In lonely planet travel books
and when theres more traffic
in sweatshops & brothels
than on freeways
Its crazy,
that we get more mad at the traffic in the LA
Than the trafficking of humans to LA
I understand that we have our own lives to live
but the life of a trafficked victim
is not life worth living
Fact: Survivors, if can call them that
have high rates
suicide depression
STD infection
Realities already been broken
mental disconnection
Victims don’t even know they’re being victimized
exploits of cheap labor become the norm
its internalized
I know but
What exactly are we to do
When we’re just passive bystanders
Just standing and passing by
But I understand now we need not be saviors
Of these people
But students
Students that understand these humans
are human
And not just victims of capitalistic malicious structure
But warriors of their own worlds
And demands for cheap labor & sex
capitalism
Imperialism
patriarchy
Modern day slavery
Sent them to battle
So let pay homage to them
and occupy
Shout out to all the activists in the Occupy movement
